This page describes how SocialDog acquires data from each social media platform and the acquisition timing based on features and social media platform types.

Common to All Social Media Platforms

Data Acquisition Method

SocialDog acquires data from each social media platform's official API (e.g., X (Twitter) API, Instagram Graph API). We do not use methods prohibited by each platform's terms of service, such as scraping.

Data Acquisition Timing

SocialDog's servers acquire data from social media platforms at one or more of the following timings. The timing varies depending on the feature, data, and social media platform type.

• Regular Acquisition
  • Only if you have logged in within 14 days with a paid plan or Free plan
  • The timing varies by user and day and cannot be specified.
• When a SocialDog screen is opened
• When the [Refresh] button on a SocialDog screen is clicked
• Immediately after new registration with SocialDog
• Immediately after changing to a SocialDog paid plan

If daily regular acquisition stops for the Free plan

Logging in again will resume data acquisition, but data for the period during which it was stopped will not be acquired. We recommend logging into SocialDog regularly.

Data display immediately after SocialDog registration

Immediately after registering with SocialDog, information will not be displayed on the dashboard or elsewhere until data acquisition is complete.

Acquiring past data can take up to 1 day. New data after registration will be reflected at the next data acquisition timing.

Differences in Data Display Between SocialDog and Social Media Platforms

Due to the following reasons, data displayed on SocialDog may differ from data displayed on the social media platform itself (e.g., X Analytics, Meta Business Suite).

• Acquisition Timing
  • Depending on the acquisition frequency of each data point, the values displayed in SocialDog may not be the most current.
• Number of Posts Acquired
  • There is a limit to the number of posts SocialDog can acquire.
• Data Update for Acquired Posts
  • There are limitations on the scope of updates depending on the number of recent posts and the number of days since the post.
• Social Media Platform Side Issues
  • The data provided by each social media platform via API may differ from the data displayed on the social media platform itself.

Handling of Data Acquired from Social Media Platforms

SocialDog complies with the developer rules set by each social media platform. Therefore, information that can only be viewed by a specific user on the social media platform (e.g., analytics metrics only visible to oneself) is made accessible only to that user and is not disclosed to other users.

X (Twitter)

Users

Target Data

• User information (e.g., follower count, following count, profile text)
• Daily history of user information

Acquisition Timing

• Daily regular acquisition (once every 24 hours from 9:00 AM JST)
• Immediately after registering with SocialDog
  • If SocialDog holds data from before registration, it will be acquired.
    • If there was a follow relationship with a SocialDog user, SocialDog may hold data from before registration.

Posts

Target Data

• Post data
  • Post content, latest values of metrics for each post (e.g., impressions, likes)
• Time-series data of post metrics

Acquisition Timing

• Immediately after registering with SocialDog
  • Acquires the latest 3,200 posts and their metrics.
• Immediately after changing to a paid plan
  • Acquires the latest 3,200 posts and their metrics (lifetime values).
  • Acquires hourly metric trends for the latest 100 posts from the past 4 weeks (Business and Enterprise only).
• Daily regular acquisition (once every 24 hours from 9:00 AM JST)
• When SocialDog is opened
  • When opened 3 hours or more after the previous data acquisition
    • Automatic acquisition of posts since the previous data acquisition (including posts created without using SocialDog).
    • Update of analytical data for posts created within the last 10 days (Personal and Professional) or last 30 days (Business and Enterprise).
  • If a period exceeding 2 weeks is specified on the post performance screen
    • Additional data for that period will be acquired.
• When the [Refresh] button on a SocialDog screen is clicked

Upper Limit on the Number of Posts that can be Acquired

• When the number of posts acquired in the current month reaches the limit for each plan, automatic acquisition of posts created without using SocialDog will be suspended until the next month (posts during the suspension period will not be acquired in subsequent months either).
  • Limit per plan
    • Free・Personal・Professional: 3,000 posts
    • Business・Enterprise: 12,500 posts
  • Posts via SocialDog will continue to be acquired automatically, regardless of the number of posts acquired.
• If the number of newly created posts since the previous acquisition exceeds 3,200, some data may not be acquired (Business and Enterprise only).

Follows and Followers

Target Data

• List of followed and follower users, and profile information for each user
  • Includes follows made outside of SocialDog.
• Historical data of follows and followers
  • Includes follows made outside of SocialDog.
  • If a follow and unfollow occur between data acquisitions (e.g., unfollowing immediately after following), it will not be recorded in the follow history.
    • Performing a "manual refresh of the follow/follower list" before and after follow operations makes it easier for accurate information to be recorded in SocialDog's follow history.

Acquisition Timing

• Daily regular acquisition (once every 24 hours from 9:00 AM JST)
• When SocialDog is opened
  • If more than 1 hour has passed since the previous data acquisition when displaying the "Followers" screen
• When the [Refresh] button on a SocialDog screen is clicked
  • On the "Followers" screen, you can manually update data by clicking the refresh time display (a button showing "15 minutes ago" or similar) in the upper right corner of the screen, then clicking the [Refresh Now] button.

Competitor Account Posts

Target Data

• Competitor account posts
  • Acquires up to 1,000 posts for the current month. If the number of acquisitions per month reaches 1,000, the acquisition of new posts for that month will stop. Post acquisition will resume from the 1st of the following month, but posts not acquired in the previous month will not be acquired retrospectively.

• When added as a competitor account
  • Acquires up to 1,000 past posts
• Daily regular acquisition (once every 24 hours from 9:00 AM JST)

Instagram

Users

Target Data

• Daily follower count, following count, impressions, likes, profile views, etc.

Acquisition Timing

• Daily regular acquisition (once every 24 hours from 5:00 PM JST)
  • Due to Instagram's specifications, data available for "new followers" and "unfollowers" is only for up to 3-4 days prior.

Posts

Target Data

• Individual post impressions, likes, etc. (engagement)

Acquisition Timing

• Immediately after registering with SocialDog
  • Acquires the latest 1,000 posts from the past 2 years (730 days).
• Daily regular acquisition (once every 24 hours from 5:00 PM JST)
  • Acquires the latest 1,000 posts.
• Regular acquisition every 15 minutes
  • For Business plans and above, acquires the latest 100 posts and data from within the past month.

Online Follower Metrics

Target Data

• Average online followers by time of day, etc.

Acquisition Timing

• Acquired once a day, considering the period from 5:00 PM JST to 4:59 PM JST the next day as one day.
  • Due to Instagram's specifications, data available is only for up to 2-3 days prior.

Impact of Daylight Saving Time (DST) in Pacific Time (PT)

Due to Instagram's specifications, during Daylight Saving Time (approximately March to November) in Pacific Time (PT), data acquisition timing will be 1 hour earlier than usual.

Additionally, during DST transitions, the displayed number of online followers may appear extremely low.
